Cultural Awareness & Diversity

Everyone has a culture and many theorists have attempted to define this concept. As I continue to expand my awareness around this concept, I am particularly drawn to Clifford Geertz’s (1973) description “man is an animal suspended in webs of significance he himself has spun, I take culture to be those webs, and the analysis of it to be therefore not an experimental science in search of law but an interpretive one in search of meaning” (Geertz, 1973, The Interpretation of Cultures, p. 5)

Cultural Awareness & Competence

I have completed the PHSA Cultural Awareness Program. This provincial education module provides learners with a broad understanding of the many challenges and historical experiences of our First Nations communities and how this has impacted their sense of self, health and wellness.

Seasons of Health & Healing

I have recently attended the two day ‘Seasons of Health & Healing” workshop. This workshop provided opportunities to continue to grow my own awareness of the diversity in health and healing for our many First Nations communities.
